Unlocking Stages and Difficulties
Summary
“???” on a difficulty or Stage means the name is hidden because you haven't reached or unlocked it yet. This guide explains how that differs from content that hasn't been implemented, and clarifies the difference between revealing a name and meeting the requirements to challenge it.
Difficulty Displayed as “???” or “???”
If “???” or “???” is displayed in the difficulty selection, it means the name of a difficulty you haven't unlocked yet is hidden. It does not mean the difficulty hasn't been implemented. Normal and Hard are visible from the start, while higher difficulties become visible once you unlock them on any Stage. Seeing a difficulty's name is separate from being able to challenge that difficulty on the selected Stage.
Unlocking Difficulties for Each Stage
| Difficulty | Clears Required |
|---|---|
| Hard | Clear Normal on the same Stage 5 times |
| Extreme | Clear Hard on the same Stage 5 times |
| Spiral | Clear Extreme on the same Stage 5 times |
| Paradox | Clear Spiral on the same Stage 100 times |
Paradox up to α is unlocked by clearing Ruby on Normal 1 time, then clearing the Spiral of the Stage you want to challenge 100 times. For β Paradox, check the separate condition in the Q&A below. The requirement of 100 Spiral clears applies to each Stage. Limited-time Stages have their own difficulty cap, and Shibuya Halloween only goes up to Spiral. Clearing Spiral 100 times does not unlock Paradox.
Can the highest unlocked difficulty be selected automatically when I choose a Stage?
Turn ON “Select the highest difficulty when choosing a Stage” under ⚙ in Quest to select the highest difficulty unlocked for that Stage. This setting is OFF by default. If you select a difficulty again on the Stage selection screen, your manual selection takes priority.
When a Stage name is “???”
A slot with the name “???” in the Stage selection list is also hiding a Stage you haven't reached or unlocked yet. In general, clearing the previous Stage lets you proceed to the next one. Some require clearing a specific Stage or difficulty. Check the in-game unlock information and the Stage List.
What does the “α” number before a Stage name mean?
Main-story Stages have a number at the beginning, while the additional α Stages are numbered sequentially starting from “α1.” It may look like the letter A, but the game displays the Greek letter α. If the display still says “???”, the name is hidden because you haven't reached or unlocked it yet. The number is separate from the G on Equipment cards.
How do I unlock Abacus, α1, after Worldline’s Abyss?
Clear Worldline’s Abyss on Extreme to unlock Stage α1, “Abacus.” After that, α Stages unlock in order when you clear the previous Stage on Normal. This is separate from the requirement to unlock the Paradox difficulty; you do not need to clear Paradox to unlock Abacus. You can check the Stage List.
Where can I see the number of Runs or Clears for each Stage?
On Home, select the Stage you want to check, then switch to the difficulty you want to check. The Runs count shown under the Stage name as “Runs ○ · Quality cap +○” is the number of times you cleared that Stage at that difficulty. Counts for other Stages and difficulties are not added together. To check the Paradox unlock, switch to Spiral on the same Stage; to check the Paradox Quality cap, switch to Paradox.
Where do I access Shibuya Halloween, and what do I need to clear to unlock it?
I can’t Embark on the main story with high-G Equipment I picked up in the event
High-G event Equipment cannot be used to Embark on main-story Stages until you clear the main-story Stage corresponding to that G. The difficulty of the Clear does not matter. Clear the Stage shown in the Embark notice, or remove the event Equipment or replace it with lower-G Equipment. It can be used within event Stages, and Infinite Dungeon is not subject to this restriction. Shibuya Halloween Equipment is G8 on Normal, G16 on Hard, and G27 on Extreme and Spiral.
How do I unlock Bagel, and what Stage comes after Ruby?
Unlock Bagel by clearing Abacus on Normal. Abacus itself requires clearing Worldline’s Abyss on Extreme. In the α series, clear the previous Stage on Normal to proceed to the next one. Clearing Ruby on Normal unlocks β1, “Ancient Ruins of the Conduit,” and β Stages then unlock in order by clearing the previous Stage on Normal. The current β series has 15 Stages, ending with “Sleepless Central Tower.” Check the Stage List for where to obtain items and unlock requirements.
How do I unlock Paradox in the β Worldline?
β Paradox is unlocked by clearing Extreme on β15 “Sleepless Central Tower” 1 time, then clearing the Spiral of the β Stage you want to challenge 100 times. Be sure to distinguish this from the “clear Ruby on Normal” requirement for Paradox up to α. Runs are counted separately for each Stage and difficulty.
